The British Junior Academy of Brussels, a small private school in the heart of Brussels, requires an enthusiastic School Office Assistant to join its administrative team starting August 2021. Our ethos is grounded in providing a safe, caring, respectful, tolerant and disciplined environment where high standards prevail in all areas of school life. The school has approximately 200 pupils and a teaching staff of 40. BJAB is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates will be subject to background checks in line with British Overseas Standards.

The Marketing and Events Coordinator role includes managing school communications, organising school events, establishing and promoting the BJAB brand, and preparing marketing analysis for the school and its leadership team.

This is a new position in our school and the successful candidate will be forward-thinking, creative and ambitious. This is a front-facing role with current parents, prospective families, and community members. The ideal candidate is well-presented, positive, and responsive.




  • Responsible for communication with the parents including day to day correspondence and notifying and reminding parents of any special events
  • Answer phone calls in a polite, efficient and friendly manner and redirect as required
  • Liase with business contacts to promote BJAB and manage our relations in the community
  • Create compelling multi-media content for social media, the website and print publications
  • Update the school website
  • Create and manage a content schedule for the school social media channels



  • Organise and promote exciting school events for our current and prospective parents
  • Handle bookings, catering, and all other details for special events
  • Document in-school events such as Sports Day and assemblies



  • Liase with the Proprietor and school leadership to devise a marketing strategy
  • Manage various advertising campaigns to maximise school admissions enquiries
  • Ensure third-party website information is up to date and optimised effectively
  • Prepare regular reports on marketing analytics


Essential requirements:

  • Excellent written skills in English (native or near-native) – must be able to demonstrate the ability to write and edit copy for different audiences (website articles, social media posts, press releases, newsletters, emails, letters)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to communicate confidently and effectively with a wide range of people
  • Demonstrable IT skills and ability to adapt to new online platforms
  • Demonstrable creativity and innovation
  • Self-motivation: ability to work autonomously; to multi-task and prioritise on a daily basis in a busy and dynamic environment
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate in French or Dutch (to complete orders, book venues, and conduct community outreach)

Desirable requirements:

  • Design skills, such as the use of Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
  • Previous experience with WordPress
  • Photography skills
  • Copywriting/proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of the independent education sector or international schools in Brussels
